Let's Start a Conversation: The Purple Purse Campaign

Hello Lovely BFF's,

As some of you may know, October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Domestic violence occurs 145 times every hour and 35 women die each day. This is an issue that affects millions and is often not talked about and misunderstood; more than one third of Americans have never discussed the issue of domestic violence with friends and family. Can you imagine having to go through something like this alone without resources or support?

The Purple Purse

purple purse, allstate, purple purse campaign, domestic violence awareness month, domestic violenceStarted in 2011, the Allstate Foundation’s Purple Purse Campaign provides a way to start the difficult conversation around the issue of domestic violence. But why a purple purse? The Allstate Foundation chose to start the Purple Purse Campaign for a variety of reasons. The purse represents a woman’s financial domain (freedom and independence) and the color purple is often used by domestic violence campaigns.

The Allstate Foundation is sending out more than 1,000 purple purses that will be passed between co-workers, friends, and family. For every purse passed along and checked in at PurplePurse.com, Allstate will donate $5 to the YWCA.

What we know is that 1 in 4 women are affected by domestic violence and that financial knowledge and resources are the number one determinant whether they choose to stay, leave, or even return with an abusive partner, which is why Allstate will donate up to $350,000 to YWCA programs that will provide resources to women in need and help survivors of domestic abuse.

You Can Help

Together BFF’s we can help ignite conversations about the issue of domestic violence and help so that those affected by domestic violence can get the resources and help they need. And don't worry, if you are not able to get your hands on a purple purse, you can pass on a virtual purple purse by clicking below and sharing on all your social media sites. Thank You.
